So I've spent a ton of time lately looking at pictures of traditional Japanese wedding garb for my KakaSaku contest entry pic, and I've been itching to draw something inspired by the traditional bridal headpiece.
This is what I came up with, an original science fiction pic done in the style of an old Japanese painting/print.

DeviantArt Link.
The colors were inspired by the palettes of a few antique paintings and prints that I found when trawling around the web. The paper texture is from a photo I took of a piece of cardboard awhile ago. It was mostly done with PaintTool SAI, along with adding some texturing and other effects in Photoshop.
I suppose she's a refined lady or perhaps even a courtesan, dolled up to go promenading through a city on an alien world; The hose and tank apparatus that she's wearing is probably part of some sort of filtration system for dealing with the alien atmosphere.
The bad hiragana is the title of the picture, "Bijin," which means beautiful woman.
I really like this particular art style, so I think I may use it again. :)
