goldengrimoire: (Akasuna no Sasori)
[personal profile] goldengrimoire
So, not much activity in the past couple of days on the writing front, but I've been drawing recently.

First up is another MS Paint doodle of my favorite Akatsuki member, Sasori. I'm actually happy with how this one came out, although the hand was a pain. Practice makes perfect though, so gotta keep drawing those hands. Also, for some reason I have a lot of trouble with his hair; I still haven't decided how to interpret his canon style in a way that I like, but I'm getting closer. I end up looking at a lot of fanart to see what other artists do for ideas. For some reason I have an easier time of making it look the way I want when I draw it on paper versus with the tablet.

I also ended up buying PaintTool SAI yesterday, so I started up another pic of guess who (not that I'm obsessed with the character or anything...really.) This one I'm pretty excited about, because I was able to capture my idea in my sketch almost right off the bat; it usually takes me plenty of trial and error to get it right.

I enjoy drawing those curvy shapes, even if it takes me a lot of cleanup time because of my bad habit of feathering my lines; I'm trying to avoid using path tools as a crutch as much for those longer curves.

One last thing, I've got an account on pixiv; I haven't posted any of my stuff there (I'm afraid of getting people trying to talk to me when my Japanese is utterly atrocious,) but I've bookmarked a bunch of cool stuff I've found, mostly Sasori & Deidara pics so far, but you can also see hints of some of the other anime/manga I like that I don't talk about much (like G Gundam! Communicating with your fists ftw.) I tend to only bookmark one pic per artist though, so you can find some pretty awesome stuff if you check out that artist's page.

I like pixiv's interface much better than DeviantArt. It's much easier to search because everything is tagged, and users can add tags to pictures. Plus, there's lots of cool memes that float around; you can post a pic and have other people post responses, so I've seen lots of folks posting drawing exercise challenges where you draw a character with different expressions, drawing styles, shading techniques, etc. I might just do a few of those and post the results to DA as well since I've found a few interesting ones.
